Coup

I am a forgetful person, and this morning I left my AirPods in the hotel room when I checked out. After my morning engagement, I called the hotel and got them looking for the AirPods. Then I arrived before anyone could call me back. I went to the front desk and explained. They gave me a key to access the room again. They said it had not yet been cleaned. When I arrived at the room, it had been cleaned. Crap. This was going to be an ordeal. I remembered that I could make the AirPods play a sound from my phone. Maybe I had left them under the bed and the cleaning person had missed them. I played the sound. Nothing. I played the sound again. Nothing again. I played the sound one more time and immediately began walking out of the room. As I entered the hallway I could now hear the beeping noise very faintly. I walked up the hall and it got stronger. The place where it was loudest was in front of a door marked “Private.” I knocked on the door. Nothing. I opened the door. No one was there, but my AirPods case kept bleating back at me each time I activated the sound. Finally, it was there, wrapped in a plastic bag with a piece of paper containing lost item information, in a basket on the floor. I picked it up, put it in my pocket, and walked out of the hotel with the Bourne Identity final scene music playing.

(Later the hotel called back and I told them what happened.)
