A Winter Record Haul

I ducked into a Hard Off in between sessions of electioneering. It was fruitful.

Fat Larry’s Band—Breakin’ Out

I love FLB. I grudgingly admit that I would not have found them without Spotify. “Act Like You Know” is on a couple of my mainstay playlists. I already gave this a listen just now and it is a lot of fun.

Hiroshi Itsuki—Shiawase Sagashite

Itsuki is a karaoke go-to artist for me. It is high time I start picking up some enka records. “Omae to Futari” is an excellent tune.

Chaka Khan—I Feel For You

A very happy surprise to find. I have coveted this album since day one of vinyl life. She does the title track better than Prince did it. Sorry not sorry.

Neville Brothers—Fiyo on the Bayou

Change—Change of Heart

Dionne Warwick—Friends

This has “That’s What Friends Are For.” I expect more goodness too.

Madonna—True Blue

Bruce Hornsby and the Range—The Way It Is

Ray Parker Jr.—Woman Out of Control

Huey Lewis and the News—Sports

Boz Skaggs—Slow Dancer

Journey—Escape

Con Funk Shun—Fever

Lionel Richie—Lionel Richie

Philip Bailey—Inside Out

Nile Rodgers produced this. The inaugural listen was really nice.

Hiroshi Itsuki—Boku no Juunikagetsu

New York Philharmonic, Leonard Bernstein—Dvořák Symphony No. 9 “From the New World”

I look forward to listening to this during work. The “Goin’ Home” movement in it is a favorite. It is the melody that Fuchu plays on its city chimes in the evening. I was mesmerized when I first heard it during my first month in Japan. The tune sounded as I looked at a setting sun through trees that were losing their leaves in the Kurumagaeshi Danchi. The choice of Monument Valley as cover art is truly random.

U2—The Joshua Tree

London Symphony Orchestra, André Previn—The Planets

Miles Davis—Kind of Blue

Another standard that I wanted for listening to during work. It is not an original release, but still great to finally have.

Herbie Hancock—Sunlight

Chuck Berry—Berry is on Top

Bangles—Rock’n Syndrome

George Benson—Livin’ Inside Your Love

Stevie Woods—Take Me to Your Heaven

Cat Stevens—Buddha and the Chocolate Box

Cat Stevens never wrote a bad song.
